Make it a green new year!
new challenge from the Smart Living Project
January Challenge
There has never been a better time to go green! Make this year's resolution a promise to be greener in your every day life. It's easy with SLP's monthly challenges!
Basic challenge - Decline ATM and gas pump receipts
Need an easy new year's resolution? Try declining all ATM receipts and gas
pump receipts, if you don't absolutely need them for your records. Once you
get in the habit of selecting 'no receipt', this resolution is a snap! Much
easier than giving up chocolate. Maybe even put a post-it note in your car
or wallet to remind you.
There's a statistic quoted on several 'green' web site that says if everyone
declined ATM receipts, it would save a roll of paper more than 2 billion feet
long—enough to circle the equator more than 15 times. Now, we haven't
been able to find anywhere that gives a timeframe for that—whether it
means in a year's time, shorter, or longer—but the point is that it can
save a lot of paper, and everyone doing his or her small part really adds up!
Advanced challenge - Go completely paperless
Go to paperless statements from your bank, your insurance company, and all your bills, too. To encourage others to go green as well, consider inserting one of SLP's smart living e-mail tags into your e-mail signature.
